الفسق - The Debauchery

In Geo's Magazine first issue for this year, there's a list of the 50 places to visit in 2011-
Sri Lanka comes first, beautiful nature, simple people, good food, exotic fruits, clean seas...what else do you want for a calm vacation ? Lebanon comes in position 24 (I can almost hear "les madames Libanaises" saying: Halla2 anno ma32oul sri lanka numéro 1, ma32oul serlankiyté ykoun balada a7la men lebnen, ma fachar, ma henné 3am yejo la hon la2ano a7la)
Eh madame akid ma3ik 7a2.

Anyway let's get back to: Lebanon comes in position 24, and the title is : "les nuits folles de Beyrouth" (Crazy nights in Beirut) Yes, unfortunately dear readers this is all Geo magazine could write about lebanon: Gemmayzé, White and Saifi. C'est tout !

Yes, The oldest inhabited city in the world, the birth place of alphabet Byblos, the largest and most noble Roman temples ever built, and the best preserved in the world,Heliopolis, the city of the sun, the 5000 years old cedar trees, the souks, the castles, the temples, the food, the culture, the writers, the musicians, the artists, all of that was erased by the "famous" dj's and the well known barmen, Wow !

People are thirsty for history and culture and we're saying that all we can offer to tourists is a party town while in our country are kept the treasures of the ancient world. Great !

  4. The problem is though, that this is all the tourism ministry is interested in pushing. Take it from me, I just had my family here..we visited the sites, and they were nice and all.. But one thing that shocked me was how poorly maintained they are! It broke my heart to see these thousand year old ruins, sitting next to heaps of trash. No where is this worse than the Sea Castle in Saida.. I need to write a post about this..thanks for reminding me..

    So about Sri Lanka.... ;D
